psymedventures.substack.com

DMTweet is a newsletter of psychedelic tweets that catch our eye šŸ‘€.

This is a collaboration between PsyMed Ventures and Business Trip (yes, we’re the folks working on both šŸ™ƒ).

Tweets include: Industry updates šŸ’¼, Therapy šŸ›‹ļø, Psychedelic research 🧪, Neuroscience 🧠, Consciousness ✨, Indigenous reciprocity āš–ļø, Regulatory updates šŸ“œ, and Trippy ideas šŸ‘½.

Inclusion = interesting ≠ endorsement.

Big news! We've published our 1-year follow-up of our trial of #psilocybin for depression. The massive decreases in depression were unshaken a year later. Mystical experience in the session was related to improved well-being a year later. Great thread by 1st author @N_Gukasyan

Areas of science not long ago considered fringe that now have federal (& other) support & 100s of labs at top institutions working to define mechanism/uses: 1) Gut microbes (& Diet) 2) Psychedelics 3) Deliberate Breathing Makes you ask: what’s fringe now soon to be a focus?

IMO mental health companies are overly fixated on distribution (e.g. going through employer channels) than changing the core of the problem - we don't have enough supply (clinicians) to meet demand or good ways to measure patient progress

Shockingly, mindfulness apps really work. This randomized controlled trial on the Headspace app finds it reduces anxiety and depression by a huge .44 standard deviations after 4 weeks - in the same range as drug treatment & cognitive behavioral therapy. adviksh.com/files/in_progr…

I think we're going to see a lot more VR therapy in the future. A new study found 30% of people prefer to discuss negative experiences as an avatar. VR seems to offer a way to "log out" of our bodies for a moment & feel more safe. v cool possibilities
